Flo Letoaba is a seasoned broadcaster with over 15 years experience in television news and current affairs anchoring as well as talk radio and news presenting.
Letoaba started her journey as a law student, while on campus she developed an interest in radio and joined the campus radio station (UJ fm) as a hobby in between her studies. During this time she was discovered by Metro fm Programming Manager Leo Manne who asked her to work for the station.
After graduating, Letoaba was faced with the unenviable position of having to choose between an old love (law) and her new passion for broadcast.
Letoaba chose broadcast but merged the two things she is most passionate about, becoming a top news and current affairs presenter.
Letoaba was the youngest SABC 3 prime time news presenter at the age of 22, she also became a regular stand in for the late veteran broadcaster Vuyo Mbuli on Morning Live who after seeing her natural talent for television began to train and mentor her. Again, Letoaba made a record, being the youngest host of the flagship current affairs breakfast show on SAfm called AM Live. Letoaba also produced and presented her own show on SABC News International “Indepth News”.
In 2012 Letoaba joined eNCA as one of the main presenters of the newly launched Africa channel. She presented the late night news slot on eNCA making a generally unpopular time slot hugely popular, this while juggling her talk show on Talk Radio 702.
With the launch of Refilwe Matla Media along with Tebogo Ramatjie, Sehlomola Mashatole and Portia Kobue, Letoaba has solidified her extensive experience to create a new offering in the form of Refilwe Matla Media to create a turnkey media services company and to tell authentic South African stories.
She is a broadcast journalist with 25 years’ experience in Radio and TV spanning both Public Broadcasting and Commercial media. She holds a BA Hons in Journalism and Media Studies from Wits University. She is a Catherine Fanning Fellow(Kettering Foundation, Dayton, Ohio) The foundation conducts research on citizen participation in finding solutions to problems of democracy. Her research focused on how the media can produce content that advances democracy by among other things framing stories to reflect problems of democracy and facilitating dialogue that supports communities' efforts to address these challenges.
Her work also involved finding practical ways in which she can shape daily newsroom routines to focus on in-depth reporting of issues and not merely treat citizens as subjects in story telling, but as participants who have the power and potential to contribute to solving democratic challenges.
She is an experienced radio news trainer. Her training workshops have a strong focus on producing news and content that is in the public interest, and helps journalists to understand their role and responsibilities and also produce news that contribute to gender equality and promotes a Human Rights culture.
Sehlomola Mashatole is a highly skilled and dynamic individual with a combination of clinical monitoring, project management and customer facing skills which enables him to conceptualize big picture opportunities. With 10 years’ experience in the corporate and academic environment, Sehlomola has occupied numerous roles in multinational Clinical Research Organisations and Pharmaceutical companies. His experience has been very diverse allowing him to understand many different facets of an organization, understanding key players and proactively actioning initiatives. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, he worked as a laboratory technician intern at the University of Limpopo’s Biochemistry department. His academics, travels and work experience has developed his skills and knowledge and has enable him to understand how the current global environment operates. He holds a BSC degree, a certificate in project management and other health related certificates from different institutions.
His key strength is his ability to communicate with different stakeholders, motivate others and engage constructively to developing relationships with peers giving him an overall understanding of different business aspects, pressures, risks and concerns. He has done work in Africa, Asia, the USA and Mauritius. He was also a contributor of an online publication which tackles Clinical Research issues in the pharmaceutical industry.
He is a co-director at Strawberry Pepper and a non-executive director at Refilwe Matla Media.
Tebogo Ramatjie is a collaborator, communicator and a strategic media specialist with skills in problem solving, negotiations, influence, and communication skills to take a product, organisation or individual from a shelf or boardroom and propel it into the media spotlight. He is a seasoned South African Media practitioner in the fields of public relations, communications and media management. He has wide ranging experience in both Television and Radio landscapes with a special interest and expertise in media management.
He has over ten years gaining specialist experience in the media and broadcasting space in South Africa, working within the private and public sectors.
Tebogo Ramatjie cut his teeth in media while studying towards his Law degree at the University of Pretoria. He joined the Campus Radio Station called Tuks FM as a Newsreader and Journalist.
He also spent time as a Newsreader at Metro FM a National Radio station with a listenership of more than 4 Million.
He has coaching experience in both Radio and television production including crisis management, He is also in the position of providing strategic communication direction for government organisations, assisting managers and the CEO personally with marketing the organizations and or its representatives and/or their projects and activities through liaising with the media on their behalf, and providing strategic communication initiatives.
